Biography

Bala Batavia is a professor emeritus in the Department of Economics. Before taking emeritus status in 2019, Batavia served as a professor of economics in the Driehaus College of Business. Batavia also served as a visiting professor of economics and econometrics at the University of Madras, the Indian Statistical Institute and the University of Paris I: Pantheon-Sorbonne from 1990 to 1991. He served as acting dean of the Driehaus College of Bus​iness from 1988 through 1989, as well as chair of the Department of Economics from 1983 to 1988. Batavia joined DePaul in 1976.

Batavia's research interests focus on financial globalization. His work has been published in the International Journal of Applied Economics and Econometrics, the Journal of Economic Asymmetries and the Journal of International Finance and Economics.

Batavia is a member of both the American Economic Association and the Indian Econometric Society. While teaching at DePaul, Batavia taught courses on econometrics, mathematical economics, managerial economics, international economics, and money and banking.
