Biography

John T. Ahern, Jr. is a professor emeritus at School of Accountancy & MIS at the Driehaus College of Business. Before taking emeritus status in 2019, he was an associate professor and director of the School of Accountancy & MIS. He previously served as associate dean of the business college. Ahern's teaching focused on auditing, intermediate accounting, financial accounting and managerial accounting. Upon his retirement DePaul presented its highest faculty and staff honor, a Via Sapientiae Award, to Ahern for his service to the university.

Ahern was appointed a Fulbright Scholar and taught for a year at Kazan Federal University (Volga Region) in Kazan Russia. He also served as a Faculty Resident with Arthur Andersen & Co. conducting audits in Andersen's Financial Services Audit Group and offering tax services as a member of Andersen's Personal Financial Planning group. From 2000 to 2005 he served as Project Director on a U.S. State Department Grant, "Business Education In Tatarstan."

Ahern was a visiting faculty member at Aalto University College of Business in Mikkeli, Finland. Internationally, he has taught in Russia, Finland, Bahrain, Hong Kong and the Czech Republic. He has served as a consultant in Russia and Bosnia-Herezgovina. For a time he was a member of the board of directors of Hub International Limited, one of the largest insurance brokerage companies in North America.
