Biography

Vahap Uysal is a​ professor of finance and academic director of the Arditti Center for Risk Management​. Uysal’s research interests include capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, corporate social responsibility and payout policy. His research has been published in major journals including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Information Systems Research and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. His papers have been presented at premier meetings hosted by the American Finance Association, the Western Finance Association, the Academy of Management and the National Bureau of Economic Research. He has also coached the Student Investment Fund Team which scored the first place at the Texas Portfolio Symposium in 2013.

Uysal is the recipient of several research and teaching awards, including the Pat Primeaux Best paper Award (2017), the Hurley Roberson Award for Teaching Excellence (2013), the Research Support Fellowship (2013), the Dean’s Excellence Research Paper Award (2011), the Junior Faculty Fellowship (2010, 2011), the Price College Ethics Teaching Fellowship (2011, 2012) and the Alumni Teaching Award (2007, 2008, 2009). Prior to joining DePaul, Uysal was the Student Investment Fund Professor at the University of Oklahoma. Uysal received his PhD in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Bilkent University and a master's degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
