Biography
Michael Marback is an adjunct professor at DePaul University teaching both
undergraduate and master of accountancy classes in auditing, financial and
managerial accounting. He is an alum and first taught at DePaul in the early
1990's. During the 90's, he oversaw a student internship program which gave
accounting students an opportunity to enhance their educational studies with
experience working in both internal and external auditing. The award winning
program has several distinguished alumni.
Marback did not follow the traditional business career path. While working as a
professional musician, he received his BA in Accounting. He passed the CPA exam
and went into Public Accounting. He continued to take classes after work and
obtained his MBA and JD degrees. In his career, he has held various positions
including EDP Auditor, Fraud Investigator, Audit Manager, Director of Legal
Affairs & Auditing, Treasurer, and Vice-President of Business & Finance (CFO).
In those positions, he had close interaction with Board Members and Board
Committees. He also co-authored disaster recovery plans, was a member of CERT
(Computer Emergency Response Team) and served on Committees including oversight
of four Information Technology implementations. Currently, he owns a tax
business, consults and teaches.
In the classroom, Marback augments strong academic teaching with business and
entrepreneurial examples. Because of his own experiences, he empathizes strongly
with students' balancing school, work and family.
