The Problem with Archives: Art, Race, Agency, and Memory, Lincoln Park Campus, Student Center

The artwork of Lillian Young, "Wanted: Runaways" and "The Black Elder Archives", was the centerpiece of this panel discussion hosted by IBPE and the DePaul Humanities Center. The discussion included the difficulty to find historical archive documentation in all public archive institutions (museums, libraries, education) for people of color, genders other than white males and the economically marginalized. Panelists also spoke about the work they are doing to provide inclusion of all people in archives through intergenerational teaching, portraiture and more. Panelists along with Lillian Young were Marcy Dinius, Professor of English, and Laura Kina, Professor and Vincent de Paul Professor, The Art School; with moderator Symone Johnson, Assistant Professor of African and Black Diaspora Studies. Lillian Young is also the Family Programs Director at the Brooklyn Museum.

This competition is open to all DePaul undergraduate and graduate students, in all disciplines, and no prior business ethics knowledge or DECA experience is required.

International Vincentian Business Ethics Conference (IVBEC), Oct. 26-28​, Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland

The Vincentian business ethics conference was hosted by Dublin City University in Dublin, Ireland, with the theme, "New Frontiers in Business Ethics." The annual business ethics conference attracts leading academics from all over the world to examine, discuss and develop the role of business ethics and sustainability in economic, political, corporate and social life today.

(B) Academics Teaching Roundtable: Building the B Impact Teams Ecosystem, Thursday, November 16 (Hybrid)

This hybrid in-person/webinar summit was co-hosted by the Institute and (B) Academics and included participation from colleges and universities across the country, students, B Corp representatives, community members and B Impact Team (BIT) stakeholders discussing the future of teaching social good and ways to connect students to careers where social impact is key.

The summit featured keynote speaker Ryan Honeyman, Partner/Worker-Owner at LIFT Economy, and coauthor of "The B Corp Handbook" and "The Next Economy MBA"; and a welcome by IBPE Executrive Director Summer Brown (Professor Brown is also the President and Board Chiar of (B) Academics).

Wicklander Fellow Symposium and IBPE Year-End Celebration

The annual symposium was held June 2, 2022, and featured presentations by 2021-22 Wicklander Fellows Patty Gerstenblith, College of Law, and Heather Quinn, College of Design. Professor Gerstenblith discussed the acquisition and publication of archaeological artifacts, and Professor Quinn discussed speculative design's place in the future of the metaverse.

The Wicklander Fellowship is awarded annually to full-time DePaul faculty who demonstrate an interest in applied or professional ethics as these topics relate to their particular field of research.

Ethics Across the Curriculum

This faculty workshop was held in April, with a change in format to expand the case-writing session. EAC explores trending ethics topics that faculty in all disciplines may wish to integrate into course curricula. Workshops are held in the spring and feature experts leading discussions and activities, and offering a small honorarium to each attendee.

Chris Marquis, who serves as the SC Johnson Professor in Sustainable Global Enterprise at Cornell University,  discussed his book, "Better Business: How the B Corp Movement Is Remaking Capitalism," during a virtual event. This event was co-hosted by IBPE and B Academics.

Cannabis Reform: Criminal Expungement and Racial Disparity

IBPE partnered with the Center for Public Interest Law at DePaul's College of Law, to host a forum on issues around cannabis reform and how policy may impact the community, particularly the minority community, through the expungement process, and open avenues for entry into the now legalized cannabis economy.

Guest speakers included Illinois Majority Deputy Leader Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth; Illinois State's Attorney Kim Foxx; and Esther Franco-Payne, executive director of the Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic. Courtney Kelledes, attorney at Rights and Restoration Law Group, served as moderator.

Will A.I. Take My Job or Save It?: The Ethics of AI in the Workplace

IBPE discussed the ethical implications of the future of artificial intelligence and automation technology as we navigate the changes that lie ahead. The panel included experts in AI, robotic manufacturing, and community outreach.

The Maker Movement: Wonderfully Empowering or Ethically Worrisome?

Daryl Koehn, Wicklander Chair in Professional Ethics, led a short talk on the ethical issues surrounding 3D printing, make-it-yourself physical spaces, entrepreneurship and more. The event was held at DePaul's Maker Hub where attendees viewed a 3D printing demo and took a tour of the Hub.
