Global real estate consultant and DePaul University alumnus Rick Sinkuler has been selected to become the next Douglas and Cynthia Crocker Endowed Director of the
Real Estate Center at DePaul, effective June 1. He will succeed current director Charlie Wurtzebach, who is retiring at the end of the academic year.
“Rick is a Double Demon who brings more than 35 years of global real estate industry experience and an extensive business network to his new role,” says Thomas Berry, chair of the Department of Finance & Real Estate at DePaul. “Rick’s experience and contacts will be an asset for leading the center as we embark on a campaign to fully establish its endowment while continuing to strengthen our relationships in the real estate community, which ensure the success of the center’s student career readiness, faculty research and industry conference programming.”
Part of the Department of Finance & Real Estate at the Driehaus College of Business, the Real Estate Center provides programs and services that support graduate and undergraduate students studying real estate, and hosts high-profile professional and research conferences of interest to the real estate industry. In addition to his staff role as center director, Sinkuler will teach as an adjunct professor in DePaul’s real estate program.
Sinkuler was a senior consulting partner at EY for more than 28 years, serving its largest and most complex clients. Most recently he served as EY’s US Central Markets Leader for the Real Estate, Hospitality & Construction practice, where he was the Global Client Service Partner for a Fortune 350 professional services firm with $16 billion in annual revenues and operations in more than 80 countries. Previously, he co-led EY’s Japan Real Estate, Hospitality & Construction practice headquartered in Tokyo and before that served as EY’s Global Markets Leader for the Real Estate, Hospitality & Construction practice.
He has been a frequent guest lecturer and keynote presenter on current and emerging global real estate trends; has been interviewed by CNBC, Real Estate Forum Magazine, America’s Commercial Real Estate Radio Show, GlobeSt, and other prominent industry media; and has produced many leading industry publications for EY.
Sinkuler earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Master of Science in Accountancy degrees from DePaul, and also is licensed as a Real Estate Managing Broker and Certified Public Accountant.
“As a DePaul graduate, I am excited to be able to give back to the university that gave me my start, while enabling and inspiring the next generation of leaders,” Sinkuler says. “My philosophy is simple – put students first. I am committed to building trust and forging life-long relationships between students, faculty, alumni and the business community. My goal is to put the relationships to work for the students and create an environment where students can maximize their abilities, make an impact and live their purpose.”
Berry thanked Wurtzebach “for his admirable work in leading the Real Estate Center since his appointment as Crocker Endowed Director in 2015 and for his role, as a faculty member since 2009, in inspiring our students to succeed.
“As center director, Charlie has been instrumental in expanding our industry connections and support through his extensive experience and contacts in the real estate community,” Berry continues. “As a professor, he shared his knowledge at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and he also directed our Master of Science in Real Estate program. During his tenure he produced an impressive body of research that continues to shape thought and practice in the real estate industry.”
