Biography

Geoffrey Hirt is a professor e​meritus at DePaul University where he taught investments and financial management for 30 years and served as department chair for 11 years. He is currently on the dean’s advisory board and executive committee of DePaul’s School of Music. He also serves on the board of directors of the James C. Tyree Foundation, a Chicago-based foundation that funds innovative educational programs in the Chicago area. Currently, he is director of the Midwest Financial Education Foundation.

Hirt is a past president of the Midwest Finance Association and former editor of the Journal of Financial Education. He served on the board of the CFA Institute in Chicago, where he also directed the Chartered Financial Analysts study program. Hirt served on the editorial board of the Journal of Investment Consulting and as senior vice president for strategy and planning and director of equity research at Mesirow Financial. Given his international background, he represented Mesirow Financial at the Pacific Pension Institute and he remains a member of that organization today.

Hirt is co-author of Fundamentals of Investment Management 10th edition and Foundations of Financial Management 16th edition. Foundations of Financial Management has been translated into 14 languages.
