Kirsten Fanning teaches managerial accounting to undergraduate students at the School of Accountancy & MIS, as well as financial accounting to MBA students. Prior to joining DePaul, Fanning served as a faculty member at Villanova University and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she was included on the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent. She earned her PhD in accounting with a minor area in psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Fanning is an award-winning scholar with research publications in prestigious academic journals, including The Accounting Review, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting Horizons, and Journal of Financial Reporting. Her research uses experimental methods to examine how accounting information and its presentation influence investors’ judgments. Fanning also conducts research examining judgments made by managers and other decision-makers within organizations, in settings related to corporate governance and the accounting control environment.
