Biography

Bala Batavia is a professor of economics (emeritus) in the Driehaus College of Business. Batavia was a visiting professor of economics and econometrics at the University of Madras, the Indian Statistical Institute and the University of Paris I: Pantheon-Sorbonne from 1990-1991. He served as acting dean of the Driehaus College of Business from 1988-1989, as well as the chairman of the economics department from 1983-1988. He has been at DePaul since 1976.

Batavia's research interests include financial globalization. His work has been published in the International Journal of Applied Economics and Econometrics, the Journal of Economic Asymmetries and the Journal of International Finance and Economics.

Batavia is a member of both the American Economic Association and the Indian Econometric Society.

Batavia taught courses on econometrics, mathematical economics, managerial economics, international economics, and money and banking.​​
