Biography
Gerhard Plaschka has served as an associate professor at DePaul University since 1988. He has also served as the chair of the college's Department of Management & Entrepreneurship from 1995 through 2001. Plaschka has lectured at universities in the Americas, Europe and Middle East and was ranked by Forbes as one of the top 20 U.S. Professors in Entrepreneurship. His work has been published in MIT Sloan Management Review, Decision Sciences, California Management Review, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and the Wall Street Journal.
He has served as the executive chair of Kapsch TrafficCom’s North America Holding Corporation since 2008 and has run Kapsch TrafficCom AG’s New Ventures business since 2014. In that capacity, he also serves on the Board of Directors for Streetline Inc. and served on the Park Jockey/Reef Technologies until 2019.
Plaschka is widely-recognized for his expertise and leadership in venture management, customer choice and demand-based pricing models for complex products in industrials and connected mobility markets. He serves on CNBC's Disruptor 50 Companies Advisory Council and had served on the Board of Hoerbiger AG’ Verwaltungsrat from 2005 to 2010, the leading global player in the fields of compression technology, drive technology and hydraulics. He was also a founding member of the Austrian UniVenture Fund from 2000 to 2012.
Plaschka primarily teaches Strategic Analysis for Competing Globally (GSB 599) and occasionally Entrepreneurship and New Ventures (MGT 570) and Corporate Ventures (MGT572).
