Biography
Helen LaVan is a professor of management who has been teaching at the Driehaus College of Business since December of 1969 and served as the business college’s first woman graduate teaching assistant. Her areas of expertise include employee relations, bullying and workplace violence, and employment discrimination and arbitration.
She holds a PhD from Loyola University, an MBA from DePaul University and a master's degree in career counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. She is a licensed counselor in the State of Illinois. She has assisted in the development of more than 3,000 résumés. LaVan is the former chair of the Management Education and Development division of the Academy of Management, recipient of the university faculty service award, the Wicklander fellowship for research in business ethics and is the 2010 recipient of the Spirit of Inquiry award. She has consulted with various private and nonprofit sector organizations and family-owned businesses on human resource selection and training.
