Biography

Joel Reynolds is an assistant professor and the director of undergraduate programs in the School of Hospitality Leadership within the Driehaus College of Business. He received his doctoral degree from Iowa State University in hospitality management.  Reynolds is also a certified executive chef, certified hospitality and culinary educator and a sommelier. Additionally, he serves as a board member for the Illinois Restaurant Association Education Foundation.

Reynolds has extensive experience in the food and hospitality industry, having worked as a chef in several fine dining Relais & Château properties and as former vice president of food service operations for Niagara Power Baseball. His research interests are in food service management, particularly in food safety practices among restaurant food handlers, hospital foodservice and childcare employees. Reynolds also has conducted extensive research on higher education, specifically focused on microlearning in the hospitality higher education classroom. He has authored over 30 studies and articles for journals and industry publications, and has given more than 25 presentations globally. 

Reynolds serves on the editorial board for a number of journals, including the Journal of Tourism and Hospitality, the Journal of Pediatric Diseases, and the Hospitality and Tourism Management International Journal. He also is a question reviewer and developer for the ServSafe Food Safety Exam.
