Biography

Joseph W. Thompson, CFA, ASA is a director at Houlihan Lokey. Thompson has more than 20 years of experience as a professional in the finance industry. He has performed valuation and damages analyses for purposes of commercial litigation, estate and gift taxation, employee stock ownership plan compliance, and purchase price allocation. Thompson’s expert opinions have been relied upon in various courts such as the Delaware Court of Chancery, U.S. District Courts, the Supreme Court of the State of New York, and Illinois Circuit Courts.

Thompson is an instructor for the finance course Risk Management to undergraduate and graduate students. The course focuses on the valuation and use of derivative securities to manage the risk of an organization.

​Thompson was formerly an options trader for Goldman Sachs on the Chicago Board of Options Exchange. He has published numerous articles in publications such as the ASA’s Business Valuation Review and Business Valuation Resources'​ Business Valuation Update.
