Biography
Timothy Opiela is a professor of economics at DePaul University. He is also an economic consultant for the National Bank of Poland, the Bank of Thailand and the Gdansk Institute for Market Economics. He has been teaching at DePaul since 2000.
Opiela's research interests include monetary policy and inflation uncertainty. His work has been published in the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and the Journal of Banking and Finance.
Opiela has taught internationally in Bahrain, China and the Czech Republic. He is an economic referee for the American Economic Journal-Macroeconomics and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. Opiela is the recipient of numerous awards, grants and scholarships including DePaul University's QIC Excellence in Teaching Award and the Summer Research Grant.
Opiela received his bachelor's degree in Economics from California State University. He earned his PhD in Economics from Texas A&M University in 1987. Opiela teaches courses on Monetary Theory and Policy, Banking and Financial Markets, Microeconomics and International Macroeconomics.
