Biography
Bill Dexter has been practicing in public accounting for 42 years primarily as a tax professional. After receiving his undergraduate degree from DePaul, he worked for a small firm in downtown Chicago where he did accounting, audit and tax work. In 1981, he joined the tax practice of Miller Cooper and Co., Ltd. during which time he received his master's degree from DePaul. In 1994, he joined Arthur Andersen as a manager in the Tax Reporting Services group and rose to the level of principal. Dexter also worked at Deloitte as a director in their private client services group. He retired from Deloitte in July 2015 but in February 2016 he was talked into coming out of retirement to join Andersen Tax LLP as a director. He retired from Andersen Tax in December 2016.
His career in public accounting has been focused on serving ultra-wealthy individuals, family groups, family offices, and closely held business owners on tax and financial matters. He has conducted tax training classes at both the local and the national level. In additional to teaching undergraduate classes as an instructor at DePaul, Dexter previously taught classes in the Master of Science in Taxation program. Bill is only semi-retired as he continues to do tax work in his own practice in addition to his teaching.
