DePaul Celebrates 120th Academic Year at Convocation

DePaul University celebrated its 120th academic year at the annual academic convocation Thursday, Aug. 31 at the St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Lincoln Park. Following a procession led by faculty and staff, Provost Marten denBoer shared opening remarks with the university community. President A. Gabriel Esteban, Ph.D., offered closing remarks at the end of the ceremony.

During the ceremony, 16 faculty members were selected for the Excellence in Teaching Award, including business faculty members Sanjay Deshmukh, associate professor of finance, and Alyssa Westring, associate professor of management and entrepreneurship. The Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes significant achievements in teaching as well as a commitment to the university’s teaching mission. Faculty and staff were also honored for their public service, advising, scholarly achievements and more.

The ceremony also recognized 42 faculty members who recently received promotion and tenure. Three business faculty were included:

  • Eric Dierdorff, Department of Management & Entrepreneurship, promoted to professor
  • Grace Lemmon, Department of Management & Entrepreneurship, promoted to associate professor with tenure
  • William (Marty) Martin, Department of Management & Entrepreneurship, promoted to professor
