DePaul University’s Center for Sales Leadership attracted the largest student turnout to date for its Autumn 2017 Career Expo, which it hosted last month on the Lincoln Park Campus. This biannual event open to all DePaul students was a great opportunity for students to interact directly with representatives of companies that are hiring for internships and full-time positions in sales, category management and marketing.
DePaul’s sales leadership academic program is supported by nearly 30 corporate partners of the Sales Leadership Center at DePaul's Driehaus College of Business. The partners provide guidance for the curriculum, guest lecture in class, participate in center research and provide career connections for students and alumni.
“It was wonderful to have our students and partners together in one place,” says MaryAnn Gibney, program manager of student and alumni engagement for the Center for Sales Leadership. “I’m extremely proud of the time students put into preparation of the event by attending our resume, interview and career expo prep sessions hosted by the Center for Sales Leadership in the weeks leading up to the expo. They came to the expo with the confidence to meet employers and the ability to clearly articulate how their skills align with those needed to excel at the companies.”
The career expo featured a unique, two-part format beginning with roundtable discussions followed by a more traditional career fair. The discussions featured five tables with up to 10 students at each table; corporate partners rotated to each table for a 20-minute group discussion. This gave students quality face time with company representatives in a more casual setting. It also prepared them to interact more confidently with the partners in the career fair booth portion of the event following the roundtable discussions.
Some of the participating recruiting partners for the fall expo included 3M, C.H. Robinson, MillerCoors, Salesforce.com, Groupon, Paycom, Pepsi, Walmart, Walgreens, Mars/Wrigley, and Greenlee. More than 140 students attended the expo.
