DePaul’s Actuarial Summer Academy is designed to engage high school students in the field of actuarial science through experiential learning, case challenges and visits by industry professionals. Students enjoy a five-day, on-campus experience working on teams of six, each sponsored by a different major company.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes:

  • Workshops in Excel modeling
  • Experiential learning seminars in the principles of probability, statistics, risk management and financial theory
  • Industry professionals as guest speakers
  • A case challenge where students apply all that they have learned
 
 

Campus Experience

During the program, students live on DePaul's Lincoln Park Campus. Each team is accompanied by an upper-class actuarial sciences student. The program also includes fully catered meals. All student costs are underwritten by our corporate partners.

The on-campus experience will also give students an “all you can eat” guest pass for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the university cafeteria while staying in the Lincoln Park dormitories. Students can experience campus life, such as a movie night in the quad and team sports in the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center.

The Actuarial Summer Academy accepts students entering their sophomore​​​​, junior, and senior years of high school. DePaul has formed partnerships with local area high schools, which nominate two primary students and one alternate student to attend.

Selected students are invited to participate in the academy which will introduce them not only to life at DePaul, but also to the path of an actuarial science major. Students will have a chance to learn about the university in addition to the activities, seminars, speakers and short field trips related to the world of actuarial science.
