Taxation (MSTAX)

The Master of Science (MS) in taxation is an integrated program of study that provides the foundation for exceptional performance and leadership in the field of taxation.

One of the first MS in taxation programs in the United States, DePaul’s program is specifically structured for working professionals to enhance understanding and analysis of complex tax statutes, tax regulations, related cases and rulings, and the Internal Revenue Code.

Students admitted to the program seek to attain the highest levels of responsibility in their firms, businesses and organizations by adding value through technical competencies; analytical, communications and interpretive skills; and leadership to their clients or organizations.

Faculty expertise and experience. Program faculty bring top academic and professional qualifications into the classroom—they are experts in the specific topics they teach. Faculty include a broad range of highly ranked individuals working in tax firms and government, including professionals from RSM, the Internal Revenue Service, Deloitte, PwC, EY, Grant Thornton and KPMG, among others.

Top-ranking program. The program has been ranked among the top five tax programs in the nation, based on a survey of employers conducted by TaxTalent, the largest online network of tax professionals. The survey provides a valuable index of which accounting schools are consistently held in high regard by both alumni and those who hire tax professionals.

Flexibility. The flexible pace of the program allows students to tailor their school schedule to their work schedule. Most students take one to two classes each quarter, completing the program within two to three years, and students often take a quarter off during busy periods such as the winter tax season. The program can also be completed in one year for those students who desire to attend full time.

Online learning. The program also can be completed partially or entirely online – an invaluable benefit for students wanting a flexible schedule or for those not living in the area. The online classes allows students to access to the program’s comprehensive tax curriculum.
